Stateside Legal
Stateside Legal is funded by the Legal Services Corporation to provide information nationwide for veterans seeking help.
C-Vets Cumberland Veterans Legal Assistance
at the Samford University Cumberland School of Law
The Cumberland Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic at Cumberland School of Law, provides legal assistance to veterans and their families in an eight-county area of North Central Alabama including Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Cullman, Etowah, Jefferson, Shelby and Walker counties. The clinic helps veterans and their families for whom retaining counsel would be an undue hardship.
Soldier and Family Legal Services
at the Fort Novosel Office of the Staff Judge Advocate
The Legal Assistance Office provides legal advice and assistance to eligible clients. The LAO prepares or reviews legal documents including but not limited to: wills; powers of attorney; living wills; healthcare powers of attorney; bills of sale; simple affidavits; leases; promissory notes; adoption proceedings; name changes; uncontested divorces; and separation agreements.
42nd Air Base Wing Legal Office
at Maxwell Air Force Base Office of Staff Judge Advocate
The Legal Office provides free legal assistance on personal civil legal matters to eligible beneficiaries, including active duty or retired military members and their dependents. Examples of personal civil legal matters include: landlord-tenant law, domestic relations, financial responsibility, consumer law, and other issues involving the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). Please note that Air Force personnel who need mobilization- or deployment-related legal assistance will receive highest priority.
Redstone Arsenal Legal Assistance
at Redstone Arsenal Office of Staff Judge Advocate
The Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Management Command, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, provides claims, legal assistance and military justice services for Redstone Arsenal. Persons eligible to receive legal assistance are: active-duty service members (and their dependents), retirees (and dependents), and Reserve and National Guard retirees who are receiving military retirement or disability pay (and their dependents).
Military Pro Bono Project
of the American Bar Association
The ABA Military Pro Bono Project—managed by the ABA Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel (LAMP)—accepts case referrals from military attorneys on behalf of junior-enlisted, active-duty military personnel and their families facing civil legal issues, and it works to place these cases with pro bono attorneys. The Project is also the platform for Operation Stand-By, through which military attorneys and other pro bono attorneys may seek attorney-to-attorney guidance.
